Razer Mamba Wireless Gaming Laser Mouse – For Real?!

OK, we vowed we’d never think about writing about a wireless gaming mouse! Everything you’d hear included extreme jittering, annoying delays and the mouse forgetting where it’s at…UGH! Think about it…You’d be running around a corner as your enemy is steaming around that same corner…Now, of course, if it’s Call of Duty, and you are running, the first guy to “walk” will shoot/melee first…But we are talking all things equal. The signal needs to travel from the mouse to the “receiver” and then to the CPU (card/computer). That’s got to result in some laggy delay, right? Well…let’s just say Razer has at least spun our heads on this.  The Razer Mamba Wireless Gaming Laser Mouse has exploded onto the scene and made a huge splash towards reworking our original views.
The first items we wanted to check on were the polling rate and the actual wireless technology that the wireless Mamba 5600 dpi used to communicate with the receiver.  The Mamba has an impressive 1 ms polling rate which is as good as you can get with any other gaming mouse. Couple that with the fact that the Mamba communicates on the 2.4 GHz wireless frequency range, and you soon realize that you might have something special here! These numbers indicate a lag free experience as promised by Razer. It is absolutely worth noting here that most wireless mice have polling rates of either 2 ms or 8 ms. The fact that the wireless Mamba has a 1 ms polling rate means that your commands can be executed even if you and your opponent react at the same time. So, right away the Razor Mamba 5600 dpi is in a class of its own!
By the way—Amazon has a special price on the Mamba 5600 dpi!
The next concern was battery life. Obviously being wireless, the mouse would need a battery in order to operate. A quick check of some technical specifications provided by Razer indicated that one can expect up to 14 hours of battery life during heavy-duty gaming (continuous). The battery life extends up to three days under what may be considered normal gaming time. There are actually two ways to charge the mouse battery. The Mamba 5600 includes a charging dock which also serves as a receiver or you can connect the included USB cable to the mouse so that you're able to continue playing while charging the battery.
The Razor Mamba is fitted with “Razer Synapse” onboard memory. This means that you can store up to five different game profiles containing your favorite button macros right on the mouse without having to worry about playing with software. The other benefit that this means is that you can take your mouse to a LAN party and all of your game settings will travel with you.
The wireless Mamba also features on-the-fly resolution switching up to 5600 dpi. Now, at 5600 dpi, that would really be pushing the envelope. At that rate, the slightest movements are enhanced to the point where you think there is some jitterness. Razer does offer firmware updates that address obvious concerns and to fine tune the wireless performance.
Finally, the design of the wireless Mamba 5600 dpi continues to impress with what we  have come to expect from Razor gaming products. Besides the obvious coloring scheme, the Mamba 5600 has been ergonomically designed for long duration gaming.

”I've purchased a number of mice over the years, from the majority of the big names: Logitech, Microsoft, etc. My last mouse was the excellent Logitech G5 gaming mouse, and I don't have anything bad to say about it, except that it had too few button options and a short cord. The Mamba is an amazing mouse on many different levels. First is the design/looks/aesthetic element. This is a beautiful looking AND feeling mouse…” Read full review

I got this mouse for Christmas 2009 and it has been with me ever since. I never experienced the issues many have had with the short battery life. I did, however, have some problems when playing wireless. It would disconnect and reconnect after about a second which would really mess me up in games sometimes. Ever since, I have always played wired which isn't a problem for me, and I haven't had any issues since…

    1. I had this mouse for about 4 months before it stopped working. While it did work, it was great I will admit. But this is the 3rd Razer mouse I have had in less than 2 years. For the price you pay for it, I would expect it to be able to last longer then it did. Never buying their products again.
